Bachelor History

  • Taster Lecture 1989: The Year the World was Whole, prof. dr. Pal Nyiri (only on Friday).
1989. The Berlin Wall falls and the democracy movement in Tiananmen Square, Peking, is crushed. Yet, it feels like the world is moving towards a common future. Thirty years on, a personal reflection on a year that bound us all much closer than we are today. Pál Nyiri is Professor of Global History from an Anthropological Perspective.

Bachelor Philosophy

  • Workshop Justice: the experiment
The famous philosopher John Rawls thought you should devise a theory of justice behind ‘a veil of ignorance’, to avoid bias and unfairness. In this experiment, we put ourselves behind the veil of ignorance and formulate our own theory of justice.

Bachelor Literature & Society

  • English Workshop: Comics
In this workshop, students will learn about the exciting new field of comics studies and its relationship to the study of literature in a visual culture. They will also produce short comics—no expert skills required!—taking into consideration how images in sequence work to create visual narratives.
  • Workshop: Creative writing (only Saturday)
In this workshop, students will investigate how establishing a practice of creative writing can be beneficial to honing their academic writing skills. They will try a few writing prompts to produce pieces of short fiction, which we’ll then workshop by offering constructive feedback on each other’s work.
