Scholarship 2017

Apply before 1 April
The VU Amsterdam Summer School has 10 scholarships available that cover the full tuition fee of one course. This is €1000 or €1150 depending on the course of your choice (housing and social programme activities not included). The scholarship is intended for excellent students who contribute to the diversity within the courses. Please be aware you can only apply for the scholarship after we have received and reviewed your application and you are accepted for the course of your preference. Students who apply for a scholarship need to have a Grade Point Average of at least 80% of the highest possible mark (calculated over previous or current degree). For example, if the highest possible mark is a 10, you need to have an average of at least an 8. We will take into account the differences in grading cultures.

Application procedure

In order to apply for a scholarship, email the following to amsterdamsummerschool@vu.nl before 1 April, 23.59 Central European Time:

  • An essay which expresses your motivation in a maximum of 800 words (2 pages). Please indicate why participation in this specific summer course is relevant for your personal and academic development. Since diversity is an important criteria in our scholarship, make sure to include the following three points in your essay:
  1. Describe your experiences with interacting in an intercultural setting. In your description, point out how you have developed intercultural competences (such as intercultural sensitivity, intercultural communication skills etc.) through these experiences (max. 200 words).

  3. Elaborate on your current or previous commitment to service in your community/society, including your motivation for commitment (max. 200 words).

For the purpose of this scholarship, diversity includes (but is not limited to) ethnic, religious, gender, socioeconomic, sexual and cultural diversity. The results of the scholarship selection will be announced by mid-April. Since we have a limited number of scholarships available for a large number of applicants, we advise you to complete your payment at the time of your course application to guarantee a place in the course of your choice. If you are granted the scholarship, the tuition fee will be reimbursed. If it is not possible for you to join the summer school without a scholarhips, no worries: all scholarship winners are guaranteed a place in the course of their choice.
